Governance

Our Charitable Status

BFCCA has successfully registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Our Charity Number is  1215647. It is managed by its Trustees it in accordance with its governing constitution. As a CIO we are able to apply for external funding and undertake projects.

Our Constitution and Charitable Objectives

Our Constitution is the Charity's governing document. The Constitution was approved  by the Trustees on 30th October 2025. A copy of our constitution is available on request.

Our Charitable Objectives are:

The advancement of environmental protection for the public benefit in Bracknell Forest Borough and the surrounding area by means of, but not exclusively:

  • Promoting good practice, raising awareness and educating the public on the causes, impacts, mitigation, and adaptation to climate change and related issues;
  • Encouraging practical steps to reduce atmospheric greenhouse gas levels and mitigate the effects of climate change;
  • Promoting community-led initiatives that mitigate the effects of climate change and minimise biodiversity loss for the benefit of residents and the general public in and around the Bracknell Forest Borough area.

Our Vision

Our vision is the foundation of our community’s climate goals and strategy objectives and was was created by members of our community who participated in the 2024 Bracknell Forest Community Climate Summit.

All communities in Bracknell Forest will work together to live sustainably, making green choices, and we will achieve net zero as close to 2030 as possible.

Our Goals

The BFCCA Goals are aligned with the Community Vision and are:

  • To reduce emissions in Bracknell Forest as soon as possible.
  • To protect and improve our local environment's biodiversity.
  • To engage and support all residents, communities, businesses, and organisations in addressing climate, biodiversity, and energy issues.
  • To improve the energy efficiency of our homes and buildings, to reduce costs, and to improve our local energy security.
  • To promote sustainable transportation and active travel.
  • To promote the development of a sustainable food system.
  • To ensure we all remain physically and mentally healthy.
  • To share what others have done in the borough to help and inspire others to do the same.
  • Inspire the community to take action through engaging events and interactive games.

Our Principles

These are our principles:

A Just Transition

  • We need a just transition that works for the entire community to ensure that no one is left behind or marginalised.

Community Led

  • By asking our residents and community members how they think emissions can be reduced, we can generate practical ideas, identify problems with implementation, and generate enthusiasm.

Emission Reduction and Energy Efficiency Improvement

  • We will focus on reducing emissions through energy efficiency and the electrification of heating and transportation, taking advantage of the cleaner and decarbonised electricity now being produced by the National Grid.

Adaption

  • Climate change is here and already causing problems. Mitigation (reducing emissions) is vital, but we must address the problems caused by climate change now. How do we adapt to floods, heatwaves, and other extreme weather events, which are now the new normal?

Natural Environment Enhancement

  • We aim to not only protect but enhance our natural environment for all of the community.

Learning whilst Doing

  • Our Net Zero stories will help to identify best practices and give confidence to others. It is essential to learn from the experiences of others.

Celebrate and Share Success

  • We will celebrate our successes.

Our Values

We are committed to environmental and social justice for everyone and our values reflect this commitment.

We are:

  • Inclusive, imaginative, and optimistic   We welcome diverse voices and believe creativity fuels change.
  • Grounded in evidence, unafraid to challenge, and always transparent   Our work is driven by data, integrity, and a willingness to speak truth to power.
  • Independent of party politics, yet deeply collaborative and professional   We build bridges across sectors to amplify impact.
  • Bold in our belief that transformative change is not only necessary—but possible   We aim high because the stakes demand it.
  • Deeply aware that climate change touches every aspect of life on Earth   From ecosystems to economies, we see the interconnectedness.

We believe that meaningful change begins in our own communities
