Energy Efficient LEDs reduce Electricity consumption !

The floodlighting system at Birch Hill Astro was upgraded to modern LED floodlights in April 2025 to improve energy efficiency and reduce electricity consumption.

Analysis of electricity usage shows a clear reduction in energy demand following the upgrade. During the period December 2024 to February 2025, when the previous lighting system was in operation, the site averaged 49 kWh per hour while the floodlights were in use.

For the same three-month periodthe following year (December 2025 to February 2026), after the installation of the LED floodlights, the average consumption fell to 30 kWh per hour.

This represents a reduction of 19 kWh per hour of use, a 38.8% lower electricity consumption and demonstrates the significant efficiency gains achievable with LED lighting technology.

In addition to reducing electricity use, the upgrade will lower operating costs and reduce carbon emissions while maintaining the lighting standards required for sporting activities.
